Discover the restored altarpiece from Milan
The Polychrome Wood Sculpture Studio exceptionally opens its doors on 16 and 17 September. Meet the conservators-restorers while visiting a beautifully restored altarpiece from Milan.
This medieval masterpiece has undergone meticulous restoration, revealing treasures hidden for centuries beneath the thick brown varnish and dust. The subtle details and colours give the impression that the figures are coming to life before our eyes. However, the team of restorers faced many challenges. The complexity of the work lies in the fact that each surface of the altarpiece is different, requiring constant adaptation of the restoration method.
