FAKE, False and Real in Museums, Culture and Society
Het War Heritage Institute en Belspo organiseren een congres onder de noemer "FAKE, False and Real in Museums, Culture and Society", dat plaatsvindt op 23 en 24 november 2023. Ook het KIK is nauw betrokken en verschillende experts leveren een bijdrage aan het evenement.
Dit congres wil door middel van lezingen, casestudies en uitgebreide rondleidingen de reikwijdte van FAKES in erfgoed en samenleving laten zien en documenteren, aan de hand van voorbeelden op het gebied van cultureel, historisch en artistiek erfgoed dat bewaard wordt in musea en culturele instellingen.
De voertaal van het congres is Engels.
Er zullen onderwerpen behandeld worden als Archeologie, Conservering, Archieven, Etnografie, Antropologie, Geschiedenis, Schilderijen en Beeldende Kunst, Paleontologie, Leger, Textiel en Kostuum, Mode, Design, Media & Journalistiek, Klimaatverandering Onderzoek/Data, Wetenschappelijke Beeldvorming, Erfgoedcriminologie en Recht.
Op donderdag 23 november vindt het namiddaggedeelte plaats in het KIK, waarbij heel wat collega's een bijdrage zullen leveren, gevolgd door een geleid bezoek aan onze ateliers, labo's en andere afdelingen.

- 15:05h Mr. Bart Fransen, head of the Centre for the Study of the Flemish Primitives, A puzzle piece from Juan de Flandes’s Retable for the University Chapel in Salamanca
- 15:25h Mrs. Christina Currie, head of scientific imagery, and Mr. Steven Saverwyns, head of the painting analysis laboratory, When is a Brueghel not a Brueghel? A forensic approach.

Painting Conservation Studio, Scientific Imagery (Radiography and Infrared Reflectography), Macro-XRF Scanning, Radiocarbon Dating/Dendrochronology (together) and/or Centre for the Study of the Flemish Primitives (display Van der Veken painting, plus documents and books on Fakes in our Library and our Centre)

The Archduchess Isabella (1566-1633). Artistic Agency between Madrid and the Southern Netherlands
The twenty-third Art History Seminar of the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA) is organised in collaboration with the research project AGENART at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). It will take place on 12th-13th September 2024 at the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage and at the Instituto Cervantes, both in Brussels, highlighting various fascinating aspects of the artistic patronage of the remarkable woman who was the Archduchess Isabella, who lived in Madrid and Brussels between 1566 and 1633.
